Working with internationally acclaimed textile designers to produce the worlds first digitally printed waxed canvas.
Timorous Beasties are internationally acclaimed in the interior design industry and their fabrics and wallpapers adorn country villas, boutique hotels and restaurants.
With their studio only a stones throw from our workshop, collaboration was inevitable - but our focus on using waxed canvas posed a problem. How could we transfer a digital design onto canvas, then apply heat and wax, without distorting or destroying the underlying design?
It hadn’t been done before.
So we developed a solution.
Working with Halley Stevenson of Dundee, we embarked on a year of technical innovation and development to allow the cotton to be digitally printed. Martin Wigglesworth, the director of Halley Stevenson, recalls that “Trakke identified the opportunity to combine our fabrics and finishes with state of the art digital printing technology, creating an effect which is a first in our 150 year history”.
The material innovation was integral to the product, ensuring its’ suitability for use in the great outdoors. By combining form and function into one cloth, we were able to offer a stunning range of bags that showcases the distinctive prints and vivid depth of colour of Timorous Beasties designs coupled with a level of durability and water-resistance that had never been seen before. Each print was been scaled and, in some cases, recoloured, to fit the design of our bags, making the range completely bespoke.
