How To Clean & Reproof Your Dry-Waxed Canvas Bag

Your dry-waxed canvas bag is built to last, but to keep it looking its best and performing at its peak, it needs a little TLC every now and then. Follow our simple guide to clean and reproof your bag, and it will continue to look great for years to come.

We’ve also made a video guide on YouTube showing every step in action:

What You’ll Need:

  • 2 brushes (one for dry cleaning, one for wet cleaning)
  • Cloth
  • Toothbrush (or small canvas brush)
  • Warm soapy water (use clear soap)
  • Trakke re-proofing spray

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Dry Clean First
Before getting your bag wet, wipe off any excess dirt and dust using your dry brush. This prevents mud or grime from embedding into the canvas.

2. Wet Clean
Mix warm water with a bit of clear soap. Using your wet brush or cloth, lather the bag and gently clean all surfaces.

3. Don’t Miss the Details
For hard-to-reach spots like seams or corners, a toothbrush works perfectly to get your bag thoroughly clean.

4. Dry Completely
Once cleaned, leave your bag to air dry for at least 24 hours. Avoid direct heat, as this can damage the wax finish.

5. Reproof Your Bag
Hold your Trakke reproofing spray about 3–5cm away and spray evenly over the entire bag. Don’t worry about the white coating—that’s normal and will disappear once the bag dries.

6. Let it Dry Again
Leave your bag to fully dry for another 24 hours. After this, your bag is ready to use and protected once more.

Pro Tip:

Reproof your bag roughly every 9–12 months to keep it waterproof and looking fresh.
