The act of cleaning and reproofing your waxed canvas bag is equal parts maintenance, sustainability, and love. As well as refreshing the weatherproofing, and ensuring that the bag lasts as long as you need it to, it's also an important reminder that some possessions we own are worth looking after, rather than simply throwing away.
How To Clean Waxed Canvas: Wet Finish
Step 1: Gather Your tools
1 x Stiff brush or toothbrush
1 x Small bottle mild detergent (or baby shampoo)
1 x Sponge
1 x Bowl of tepid water
Step 2: Let any stains dry before attempting to treat
Ensure you wait for the dirt to dry fully, at which point most of it will brush off, leaving only the soaked in dirt behind.
Step 3: Brush off any dirt with a stiff brush
Step 4: Wash any remaining stains with water and a gentle detergent, then leave to dry.
Use circular motions, and a small drop of gentle detergent like Fairy liquid, or baby shampoo. To remove the detergent, simply rinse the sponge, and dab it onto the canvas.
Step 5: Dry Overnight
After leaving the canvas to fully dry - we recommend overnight - consider reproofing your wet finish waxed canvas with the application of some reproofing wax. You can view our guide here.
