A limited edition backpack inspired by Jura Whisky and its island home.
The brief for this project was a designers dream.
Jura Whisky were looking for new ways to talk about their brand while appealing to a new, younger demographic. They came to us asking for a bag that was inspired by their distillery and it's island home.
That was it.
The rest was up to us.
In many ways, the bag designed itself. By indulging our passion for storytelling, we found that every feature of the bag could reflect an aspect of the distillery or it's island home.
The roll-top design was inspired by the original sacks of barley that were delivered at the beginning of the distilling process.
The 20 litre capacity acts has a physical manifestation of the angel's share lost by a cask of Jura Origins during it's 10 year maturation.
The zip pullers, crafted from deer hide, reflect the fact that Jura is home to over 6000 deer - outnumbering the 200 strong population by 30:1.
Each puller is fixed in place by a copper rivet, referencing the tall copper stills that give Jura it's distinctive, smooth taste.
Even the colour is informed by the landscape. We harvested lichen from the rocks around Jura to create a natural dye that created the unique 'crottle' pigment.
Only 130 Jura backpacks were ever made.
They sold out in 8 days.
